The resume

Thirty years of building things: websites, investigations, businesses. Here's the paper trail.

Experience no.01 — work

Jan 2014 → present

Director & Founder

CCTV Aware

Founded a modern, friendly, family-run CCTV company built on traditional customer service. Design, supply and installation of IP CCTV systems for homes and businesses across Essex, London and beyond.

The full story ↓

CCTV Aware started while I was still a serving detective. After years of investigations that lived or died on the quality of camera footage, I had seen every mistake it was possible to make with CCTV: cameras pointing at nothing, unreadable images, systems nobody knew how to operate. I founded the company to do it properly, designing and installing systems that actually do their job when it matters, with the honest, family-run service I would want at my own front door.

Jan 2002 → May 2016

Detective Constable

Metropolitan Police Service

Fifteen years of planning investigations, gathering evidence, interviewing suspects and securing victim and witness statements. Final posting with the Homicide & Serious Crime Command in London.

The full story ↓

Fifteen years with the Met, working my way into the Homicide & Serious Crime Command. The job taught me things no business school could: how to plan an investigation from nothing, how to interview anyone about anything, how to keep a clear head when the stakes are at their highest, and how much detail matters. Everything I do in business today is built on habits formed there.

2000 → 2002

Shop Owner & Licensee

Family Off Licence & Supermarket, Hackney

Took over the running of the family shop in Hackney, East London, becoming the licence holder and managing the business day to day, stock, suppliers, staff and everything in between.

The full story ↓

Before the Met, there was the shop. I took over our family off licence and supermarket in Hackney and became the licensee, which is a fast education in responsibility. Early mornings, late nights, cash flow, suppliers, difficult customers and all. Two years behind that counter taught me more about real-world business than anything before or since, and when the Met came calling in 2002, I went in with an education money cannot buy.

Sep 1995 → present

Owner

Metserve Media

Web design and internet marketing company specialising in web design, website optimisation, marketing and bespoke functionality. WordPress, PHP, HTML and CSS. Clients have included Subway, TDI Plc and Army & Navy stores.

The full story ↓

I built my first website in 1995, as a teenager, when the web was dial-up modems and hand-written HTML. That hobby became Metserve Media, and it has run alongside everything else I have done since, through the shop years, the entire police career, and now CCTV Aware. Three decades on, the tools have changed beyond recognition but the job is the same: getting businesses found online, including household names like Subway, TDI Plc and Army & Navy stores.

Off the clock no.03 — hobbies

🔥

BBQ & cooking

Hot and fast over the flames. Grilling is the game, patience is for low and slow.

🏍️

Cars & bikes

Proper petrolhead. If it has an engine and makes a good noise, I'm interested.

🏖️

North Cyprus

Home from home. Beaches the world rankings have never heard of.

✈️

Travel

Road trips, city breaks and anywhere with a story. The passport works hard.

☕

Coffee

Serious volume. Oat flat white or a proper Turkish coffee, nothing else required.

🪚

Woodworking

Reclaimed scaffold boards into desks, tables and TV units. Old wood, new life.
